What is ISO/TS 16949:2009?

The ISO/TS (Technical Specification) 16949:2009 is an international standard for quality management system which was jointly developed by IATF (Note 1) members integrating automotive related standards of QS-9000 (U.S.), VDA6.1 (Germany), EAQF (France) and AVSQ (Italy). The document is a common automotive quality system requirements catalog based on ISO 9001:2008, and specific requirements from the automotive sector.

Note 1: The IATF (International Automotive Task Force) is an "ad hoc" group of automotive manufacturers and their respective trade associations, formed to provide improved quality products to automotive customers worldwide. IATF members include the following vehicle manufacturers: BMW Group, Chrysler LLC, Daimler AG, Fiat Group Automobiles, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation (including Opel Vauxhall), PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault, Volkswagen AG and the vehicle manufacturers respective trade associations - AIAG (U.S.), ANFIA (Italy), FIEV (France), SMMT (U.K.) and VDA (Germany).

Assessment and registration system

ISO/TS 16949:2009 is applicable only to sites of the organization where customer-specified automotive-related parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured.
The applicant will be assessed by IATF approved certification body/auditor according to IATFs common rules for consistent global registration using process approach. Conformity to the customer-specific requirements will also be reviewed in the assessment.
